A. J. Stevens & Co. Ltd was a British automobile and motorcycle manufacturer inoperation from 1909 to 1931. The company was founded by Joe Stevens inWolverhampton, England. After the firm was sold, the name continued to be usedby Matchless, Associated Motorcycles and Norton-Villiers on four-strokemotorcycles till 1969, and since the name's resale in 1974, on lightweight,two-stroke scramblers and today on small-capacity roadsters and cruisers. Thecompany held 117 motorcycle world records.
The AJS Model 31 was produced between 1958 until AMC’s demise in 1966. The model wasproduced alongside the identical Matchless G12 and produced 35bhp allowing a100mph top speed. Although they were as fast and as well built (some saybetter) as offerings from BSA and Triumph, they never quite achieved the samelevel of desirability – which has made them something of a bargain today andhighly collectable.
This bike is a 1961 Model 31 650cc twin, wonderfully restored and in beautiful condition. Thechrome and paintwork are in excellent order, it has been subject to a recentservice and carburettor rebuild and now runs and rides beautifully and is afirst kick starter.
Matching numbers and original, transferable registration number. Ready to ride and enjoy, without faults.
Lots more photographs are available on request including a video of the machine running.
