1966 Silver Streak Atlas Deluxe
Stunning comprehensively restored luxury aluminium American Trailer; fully equipped with everything working; solar panels; ice-cold a/c; dual fridge; shower and toilet; sensible proportions; loads of recent work to produce this period masterpiece

An interesting and far more exclusive alternative to your common or garden Airstream, the Silver Streak was an upmarket alternative marketed in the US during the '50s and '60s. Dating from 1966, this impressive 26ft Silver Streak Atlas Deluxe comes comprehensively equipped, and comprehensively restored – a job its fastidious previous owner has undertaken since it’s arrival from the States in early 2019.Impressive in every dimension, it has had lots of careful thought and work spent on its preparation. It is currently configured for two, although there is plenty of space inside for a large family if so desired. The previous owner has fitted new wooden flooring and carefully insulated the van. It comes with a roof mounted air conditioner (which only operates when the van is ‘hooked up’ to the mains). This is only a few years old and blows ice-cold air.More in keeping with our climate, a new and fully working diesel-powered heating system is installed, with internal control and thermostat. It is reputed to be both economical and very effective. The kitchen has a generous gas cooker and hob and a sink unit running from a 30 gallon cold water tank (with new water pump) and a six gallon hot water boiler. The unit below and cupboards above (illuminated) are the originals and look suitably ‘60s American. The galley is completed with and a duel-power gas or electric fridge (of ample proportions with a freezer draw) which runs good and cold by all accounts. There are three recent 110 ah leisure batteries which are automatically charged through a solar panel on the roof – managed by a clever Sun Saver Duo’ setup, or simply charged by a 40 amp Sterling battery charger. There are both 110v and 240v sockets inside and a 4Kva transformer and of course a conventional hookup. The 12v wiring for lights etc is all new and most lights have LED bulbs to minimise consumption – one of the cupboards inside comes with multiple spares and the original light units (with the exception of the old gas light) all work. There is a stereo radio unit with permanently mounted speakers. The whole unit is very clean and tidy inside. The bathroom consists of a decent shower and raised ‘throne’. There is no grey water tank but a ‘black’ water tank which takes care of everything. On the outside, it has a working (and recently recovered) roll-out awning, removable panels to protect the front plexiglass curved windows and a pop-up aluminium sunshade too. The American spec gas fittings have all been replaced with European versions. All the windows have recent new seals top and bottom and all function as they should – this has been a labour of love. There are two brand new unused gas bottles up front, a new tow hitch which is of the American type fitted, but includes a new correct tow ball which will fit standard UK/Euro bolt spacings. Also included is a rear light unit with wiring for a UK socket, although the van carries a US plug so you can tow it away.At the rear is a useful cubby which houses 4 stands, waste pipe and diesel for the heating system. There is also a UK tow ball on which to mount a rear bicycle carrier. The tyres were replaced about two years ago and the underpinnings are sound, with working electric brakes (standard in the US) complete with controller and instructions. It also has an electric jack at the front. It is approximately 26ft long, 9’6” high and 8’ wide, so it is not going to be suitable for towing with a hatchback. Weighing in at around 2.5 tonnes, it is however perfectly practical if you have a Land Rover Defender or Range Rover or similar, or even a modern pick-up truck. The previous owner has loved this van having enjoyed some very enjoyable ‘wild camping’ holidays for which it is ideally suited. It would also make a perfect extra bedroom, office or air BnB if you have an area with a nice view.

Viewing is welcome at our premises in Herefordshire WR13 and delivery is also offered anywhere in the UK, just email your postcode for a quote, thank you.
