This Morgan 4/4 1800 Two-seater Tourer first rolled out ofthe factory gates and onto Pickersleigh Road in October 1995 but who would know? This is ‘The Car That Time Forgot’ and that is a large part of its appeal: the 4/4 retains the crown for having the longest continuous productionrun of any car (1936 to the present day) and only a complete Morgan anorak would know if it was one year old or 50.

Built to order for a Mr R Wilson of Macclesfield, it cost £20,368 which included the following extras, all detailed in the factory records on file: special order Moskovitch Blue paint; galvanised chassis; reclining seats in grey Autolux leather; grey PVC hood; navy blue carpets;walnut dash; 15” steering wheel; passenger door mirror; scuttle roll bar and full rust-proofing. It is fitted with the 121bhp 1.8-litre Ford MVH EFI engine mated to a 5-speed gearbox, sufficient to propel this lightweight machine to 60mph in 9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 110mph.

Mr Wilson enjoyed his Morgan until 2018 when ownership transferred to his wife and then to his son-in-law as he needed to be the registered keeper in order to insure the car (His mother in law not having adriving licence). The car has only covered 49,800 miles to date with a large file of invoices to show regular upkeep over the years, the service book having 10 stamps up to 45,133 miles in 2009 (when it runs out of pages) plus evidenceof a cam belt change at 48,000 miles in August 2014.

Barely used at all in the last 5 years apart from annual trips to the MOT station, it starts promptly and runs sweetly and has an MOT valid until September 2020. Now getting just a little bit frilly around the edges, it only needs an enthusiastic new owner to spoodle it up over the winter and give it the more regular exercise it deserves.
